10 Mar 2018

Description

(Intro with soft piano music)Hello and welcome to your Greek Word on A Sunday. A weekly , bite-size podcast for anyone curious on language, etymology and connections. I am your host Emmanuela Lia and wherever you are in the world if you want to entertain your brain for a few minutes, this is the podcast for you. Let's go!Νάρκισσος (Narcissos) in Greek mythology was a very handsome young man. He kept admiring his reflection on the river ignoring the call of the Nymph Ηχω (Echo) who was in love with him. As a result the voice of Ηχω started fading leaving only the last syllables of her words to be heard. The Goddess  Nemesis got angry and turned  Ναρκισσος into a river flower. Since then, the admiration of one's  own self is called NARCISSISM and the phenomenon of a voice fading in open spaces ECHOInstagram @yourgreeksunday ,Blue Sky @yourgreeksunday.bsky.socialemail [email protected]
