Your Greek Word On A Sunday

Episode 197: Monotone

22 Jan 2023

Description

(Intro & piano music)Μονός (monos) in modern Greek means 'single' and τόνος(tonos) means -among other things- a musical 'note'. Something odd happened in 1706, the combined word that travelled from France was used... metaphorically and meant something tiresome, a lack of variation. The literal use in English started in mid 1700. ΜΟΝΟΤΟΝΟΣ/MONOTONEInstagram @yourgreeksunday ,Blue Sky @yourgreeksunday.bsky.socialemail [email protected]
