Yr Hen Iaith

Yr Hen Iaith (Lefel A): Y Gŵr sydd ar y Gorwel gan Gerallt Lloyd Owen

03 Apr 2025

Description

Canolbwyntia’r bennod hon ar gywydd Gerallt Lloyd Owen, ‘Y Gŵr sydd ar y Gorwel’. Yn ogystal â chraffu ar grefft y bardd, rydym ni’n egluro’r cyd-destun gwleidyddol ac ystyried pam yr aeth Gerallt Lloyd Owen ati i drafod Saunders Lewis yn y modd hwn. Nodwn arwyddocâd y gair ‘gorwel’ ei hun ac awgrymwn fod y gerdd fodern hon yn amlygu rhai agweddau hynafol ar y traddodiad barddol Cymraeg. * This episode focusses on Gerallt Lloyd Owen's poem, 'Y Gŵr sydd ar y Gorwel'. As well as scrutinising the poet's craft, we explain the political context and consider why Gerallt Lloyd Owen approached Saunders Lewis in this way. We note the significance of the word 'horizon' itself and suggest that this modern poem highlights some ancient aspects of the Welsh bardic tradition.
