Why did Bree and Clint decide to run an untrained half marathon?
You tapped it, so we're playing it. It's ZDM's Brian Clint, the podcast.
Clint away on a holiday after a big Friday last Friday. So that means you, Ellie, hello again. I sure am. Yeah. Clint timed that really well, actually. He did time it perfectly. He did. We decided like idiots, a pair of idiots, uh, that we would run a half marathon 'cause Benny Blanco did it. Yeah, right. And then a week later, no training, last Friday, we ran the bloody half marathon. Oh So proud of you. I went to some dark places, eh? I mean, yeah, I did see a a story put up, like kind of like sixteen K's in, and you were crying.
What was the experience like during the half‑marathon, especially the last six kilometres?
And I was like, oh no. Bro, I was holding back tears the last six K's. Oh. Yeah. Well done. It was my feet. My feet were just it was like I was stepping on nails or razor blades every time I took a step. And it was just so painful. And I couldn't like everyone just kept. Saying just push through it, eventually you know it'll come good. It never comes. 'Cause what you probably were actually a little bit injured there, potentially. Well, over the weekend, like the body's been sore, don't get me wrong. Yeah. Um, 'cause people have been asking, How's the body going? What's been happening? Uh and I'm not gonna lie, it was rough on Friday night and Saturday was real rough.
How did Bree’s feet feel immediately after the race and over the weekend?
Yeah. Yeah. Even yesterday, but like the body feels pretty good today. Yeah, that's great. Apart from my foot. Uh oh. Mm. Like I just kept I just kept having these shooting pains go through the side of my foot. Like every time every time I take a step and I was like, Mm, this isn't this isn't alright. So I took myself down to the White Cross this morning, down to A and E. And I rolled in there. Do you know how awkward it was? 'Cause you know the first thing that they do when you get there is they say, What have you injured? Yeah. And how did you injure yourself? And so I had to say, I've injured my foot. And it was from running a half marathon, no training.
What symptoms led Bree to seek medical help at the White Cross?
And no BS th the nurse 'cause they assess you first. The nurse was like Why the hell would you do that? Content. And I was like, yeah, it's great. I'm an idiot. Um anyway When I finally got pushed through to the doctor 'cause they did an X ray on my foot, thankfully there's no major breaks in my foot. But they reckon I could have a stress fracture. Oh. But she also thinks I've just ruptured this huge tendon um from overuse. Oh my gosh. So when everyone was telling you, just it'll go away. It'll go away. Right. Your tendon is like flat around.
What did the doctor discover about Bree’s foot injury (stress fracture vs. tendon rupture)?
Yeah. Oh, she got pushed through. No, I'm really proud of you for that. Well done. Well done. I can see why you were crying now. Um was that more like an overwhelm of just like all the emotions as well? I was just feeling everything, eh? Yeah. Like I it's hard to explain. Yeah. I don't know. Have you ever run a half marathon? Nope. I have not. I wouldn't recommend it.
How did Bree react to the diagnosis and what advice did she receive about recovery?
Um especially on no training. Yeah, it's awful. But the doctor, anyway, eventually she sent me off and she said to me 'cause she looked at my file and she goes, You've been to the White Cross quite a few times and I was like, Oh, have I? And then as she sent me out to the reception, um, she's like made a comment about how I'd been qu to the White Cross quite a few times and I decided I'd throw a joke at the receptionist. Oh, what was oh no, did it land? What was it? It did not land. Oh no So obviously everyone in the room, so everyone had been made aware that I'd been to the White Cross quite a number of times. Turns out I'm accident prone in the past couple of years. Yeah. And I said to her. Oh I should get a loyalty card on my next visit thread.
Did they not laugh at that? She did not find it funny.
What are Bree’s final thoughts on running a half marathon without training and her future fitness plans?
She goes, Hmm. Oh. Oh, I thought that's pretty good. That's good. Yeah. But a friendly banter, you know, keeping the vibes. Oh, you're injured. Hey, how about on my fifth visit I get a free tetanus shop? Yep. That's the one. Yep. Why not? I think actually, you know what, that'd be a great way for people to, you know, incentivize to check on your health, you know? People don't often get a war on fitness for their body. Let's get a bloody reward system going on.
