島の生物地理学の理論を検証したふたつの歴史的な研究。ひとつ目は、ジャレド・ダイアモンドによる、カリフォルニア沖の島々に生息する鳥を対象にした解析。50年前の調査結果と比較することで、島によっては半分くらいの種類が入れ替わったことが明らかになりました。ふたつ目は、ウィルソンとシンバーロフによる、フロリダのマングローブに生息する節足動物を対象にした実験。今では実行できないような豪快な方法で、「動的平衡」を実証しました。 参考にした論文：Diamond JM (1969) Avifaunal equilibria and species turnover rates on the Channel Islands of California.
