• sarcasm /ˈsɑ:rkæzəm/ n. 讥讽;嘲讽• resistance /rɪˈzɪstəns/ n. 抵抗这就是his way of telling Joey(他告诉Joey的方式):Stop being dumb(不要犯蠢了)。Another scene(还有一幕)既搞笑又shows Chandler’s wit(展现出钱德勒的机智),是当有一天Ross came in looking very sad and upset(Ross满面愁容地走进来),然后Joey问他 “What’s wrong buddy(出什么事了,朋友)?”, Ross 说someone at work ate my sandwich(有个同事吃了我的三明治)。钱德勒就jokingly(开玩笑地)对他说:- “What did the police say?"(警察说什么了?)以此来讽刺Ross太小题大做了,只不过就是同事吃了他的三明治而已,至于吗?这种搞笑是beyond cultures(超越文化的)而且是something that can go beyond the English language(能越过英语语言边界的),it’s funny no matter where you are from(不管你来自哪里,都会觉得搞笑)。#原因二:Delivery of Jokes钱德勒is funny for people across cultures(对于不同文化的人来说都很搞笑),就是因为他的excellent delivery of jokes(很棒的讲笑话的方式)。如何deliver a joke(表达一个笑话)很重要,tone(语调) , facial expression(面部表情)以及 timing (时机)都是part of the delivery(表达方式的一部分)。如果你有一个笑话,却没有deliver it right(用恰当的方式来表达),it really is not as funny(它就不那么好笑了)。钱德勒总是能找到the right way(合适的方式)和the right time to say something(合适的时间来说点什么)。在Rachel逃婚那一集,Ross在感叹说他特别想结婚,结果正好Rachel就walks through the door in a wedding dress(穿着婚纱进门),有种说什么来什么的感觉。所以 Chandler 赶紧仰头对着天说:- “And I just want a million dollars!”(我只想要一百万美元。)他讲笑话的great timing(绝佳时机)会让你觉得很有趣,regardless of where you’re from(不管你来自哪里)。#原因三:Relatable第三个原因就是钱德勒很relatable(让人觉得有共鸣),你可以relate to him(与他产生共鸣)。他的自我介绍是:- “I make jokes when I am uncomfortable.”(我尴尬的时候就会开玩笑。)这也是something that many of us do(我们很多人也会做的)。他的很多humorous observations(幽默的评论)都是related to work, dating, or everyday life(与工作,约会,或者日常生活息息相关),所以才是universally relatable(能引起全球范围里的共鸣)。• observation /ˌɑ:bzərˈveɪʃ(ə)n/ n. 评论#原因四:Cultural Reference第四个原因就是钱德勒的笑话里有很多cultural references(对于文化元素的引用)。他会use many pop culture references(引用很多流行文化元素),让人们感到有趣和endearing(让人喜爱)。比如他跟Monica买房子的时候,正好又碰到前女友Janice,Janice说 “what a small world”(世界真小),Chandler就一脸郁闷地说:- “And yet I never run into Beyonce.”(那我也从来没碰上过碧昂丝。)这真的是一个聪明而且unexpected response(让人意想不到的回答)。*碧昂丝是美国的一位非常著名的女歌手。还有一次Rachel特别兴奋地跑过来,嘴里一直在说guess what(你猜怎么着),Chandler的反应是:- Um, OK…the fifth dentist caved and now they’re all recommending Trident? (怎么,难道第五个牙医也放弃了,都开始推荐Trident了吗?)这一段的背景是当时美国有一个特别流行的Trident无糖口香糖广告,说五个牙医中有四个牙医都会推荐这款无糖口香糖。#原因五:Likable & Character Development第五个原因就是钱德勒这个角色非常likable(讨喜),也就是anyone can like him(任何人都可以喜欢上他)。他的角色developed well over the course of the show(在剧集的发展过程中不断成熟)。起初,他年轻又immature(不成熟),而且很afraid of settling down(害怕跟人定下来安稳过日子)。剧集的最后,他变成了一位loving husband(充满爱意的丈夫)和loyal friend(忠诚的朋友)。我们看到了他的character development(角色发展),所以我们会更加喜欢和理解他,同时会觉得他格外幽默,因为喜爱这种心情也是超越文化、跨文化的。欢迎大家在评论区留言:你印象深刻的Chandler jokes都有哪些呢?
