今回のテーマは、 『札幌軟石』。「軟らかい石」と書く、軟石。 札幌軟石は、札幌市南区の石山地区で、明治14年頃から本格的な採掘が始まり、明治時代の主要な建築資材として、活用されました。その後、コンクリートの普及や建築基準法の制定によって次第に衰退。しかし、「北海道らしさ」「札幌らしさ」を求める時代の流れ、そして、明治の面影を今に伝える歴史的価値など、様々な理由から、再び注目されています。今回は、札幌軟石ネットワーク 事務局長の佐藤俊義さんにかつて札幌のまちづくりを支え、今も活用され続ける「札幌軟石」について伺います。
