今回のテーマは、 『北海道のトマト』。北海道は、トマトの生産量 全国第2位。夏から秋にかけては、全国ナンバー1のシェアを誇ります。北海道で最初のトマト栽培は、明治の初期、札幌農学校で教鞭をとったアメリカ人農学者 ブルックスによるものと言われています。その後、昭和47年に平取町でトマト栽培が始まるなど、道内に広がり、今では、年間6万トン以上の生産量を誇る、全国屈指の産地となっています。今回も江別市で農業を営み、7種類のトマトを生産する 伊藤農場の伊藤智恵美さんに「北海道のトマト」について伺います。
