明治時代から本格的に始まった北海道の道路整備。そのため、私たちが普段利用している道路には、北海道ならではの特徴があると言われています。美唄市から滝川市に至る日本一長い直線道路や雄大な景色を楽しめることから、人気の観光スポットになっている道路など、魅力あふれる北海道の道路。2000年代からは、道路からの景観と地域づくりを組み合わせた「シーニックバイウェイ北海道」の取り組みも進められています。今回も、北海道大学 観光学高等研究センター 客員教授 木村宏さんに「北海道の道路」について伺います。
