今回のテーマは、北海道大学の 『森林美学』。漢字で、森や林の美しい学び、と書く「森林美学」。樹木や生態系への深い理解に基づいて、森林の活用と保全、持続的な森づくりを目的とする、総合的な学問 「森林美学」。19世紀、ドイツのザーリッシュによって提唱されたその考えは、のちに海を越え、北海道大学の前身 札幌農学校に伝わります。日本で唯一、100年以上にわたって受け継がれてきた北海道大学の「森林美学」、世界がSDGｓを掲げる今、再び脚光を浴びています。前回は、北海道大学農学研究院の小池孝良さんに「森林美学」の一端を教えてもらいましたが、今回も「森林美学」の考えが反映された北限のブナ林や人に恩恵をもたらす「生態系サービス」など、様々なことを伺います。
