1915年爱因斯坦首次提出广义相对论的时候，他还给出了另一个预言：短期内不可能发现光偏折效应（实际上直到1919年才被爱丁顿在日全食的时候发现）。当时的科学家们既没有仪器也没有技术来测量这种极其细微的偏折效应。因此，爱因斯坦还声称时间在引力场中会流逝得更慢。
