自人类探索宇宙以来，第一次探测的目标并不是火星，而是距离我们地球不远的金星，被称为地球的姐妹星，但是因为受到金星最外层浓厚大气层的阻挠，发射到金星上的探测器一一失败了，总是跨不出金星的大气层进入到里面，人类发射的探测器难以透过厚厚的大气层清晰地观测金星表面的具体情况。2010年，日本发射的首颗金星探测器“晓”号是人类最近的一次金星探测活动，经过5年的太空飞行，“晓”号终于进入到金星的轨道，成为了目前世界上唯一的金星探测器。
