2019年12月27日晚发射成功的胖5遥3任务中，真正的有效载荷，就是实践20号重型卫星。这其实是一颗东5平台的试验通讯卫星，也是当今世界重量最重的通讯卫星。实践20号在这次任务与2级火箭分离时，他的自重，包括卫星本身和携带的推进器，包含里面的燃料，其实还高达14吨之多。而这个14吨的物体，已经被前面的两级火箭，加速推进到一个近地点只有200多公里，而远地点高达距离地面3.6万公里的大椭圆轨道上，也就是同步转移轨道。
