How does the meeting open and who leads the Pledge of Allegiance?

Mark Bogen 7:39
Can everyone, I need you to raise the volume on this back there. Where are those notes? I think I got him. I think I got him. I got him. Right.
Michael Udine 8:13
I got it. I got it. I got it. Okay. Okay.
Mark Bogen 8:19
Good morning, everybody. And welcome to our Broward County Commission meeting. Today is June 9, 2026. And I'm going to ask everybody for two things. If you can please rise for our Pledge of Allegiance. Please rise and stay standing after we do the pledge. And normally what I do is I ask somebody that can lead us in the pledge. And today I'm going to ask Brody Romer. Where's Brody? Brody?
Brody?
Mark Bogen 8:45
So just wait, wait, wait, Brody, wait, wait. Brody, just to let everybody know, he's going into fifth grade from Heron Heights Elementary. He actually bid money from the PTA, and Commissioner Dean wants to thank him for doing this. Are you all set? Yeah. You ready? Can you give it your all? All right, you lead us. There's the flag, and you lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Brody Romer 9:05
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Mark Bogen 9:31
Folks, it's customary that we observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. And I'm going to go around the dais to see if anybody wants to acknowledge anybody, starting with Commissioner Davis. Only if 60 minutes counts. OK, great. All right, then let us also honor all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces, both here and abroad, and thank them for their service. I ask that we do a moment of silence.
Mark Bogen 10:17
Thank you. Please take your seats. Michael, is Brody staying here?
Michael Udine 10:24
Yeah, he's staying. He's doing a few things. Where's Brody? Brody is a specialist in speech and debate, too. Brody, bring him up here. Yeah, come on up, Brody, for a little while. This is really big. That donation to Heron Heights PTA is really working out. Brody, come on up here.
Mark Bogen 10:42
Brody, why don't you... Oh, my God. Now, Brody, when I say approve, you just watch me. I'll give you the lead, and if I say don't approve, you don't approve it, okay? Right. All right.
Michael Udine 11:06
And if you get scared of him, you come over and sit this way, because he can be a little mean.
Mark Bogen 11:11
And then if you listen to what I say, I'll pay you off really well afterwards. Okay? Brody, that's what's called a joke.
Welcome to politics.
Mark Bogen 11:23
All right. Our breakfast and music provided today by Commissioner Udine. OK. School's out for the summer. Alice Cooper in the summertime. Great music. All right. We're going to do the, we have some presentations today. First is our employee recognition. Monica, are we going to start that first?

Who is recognized in the employee service awards and what milestones are celebrated?

Mark Bogen 11:44
And so we're recognizing everybody. Thank you for coming. And we're done. No, I'm joking. I'm joking. Monica, you'll lead the way and I'll come down. All right.
Mark Bogen 12:10
Brody, we're recognizing employees now. You should have them sit in your seat now. Thank you, Mayor and Commissioners. So today we get to honor and recognize many employees for their many years of service. We're going to start with 20 years of service with aviation. Adrian McGriff.
Mark Bogen 12:57
You can say good morning. Good morning.
Steve Geller 12:59
I know, he's scary.
Mark Bogen 13:00
You want to do it here? Okay. All right. Hold on. Can you take off your visitor pass?
Brody Romer 13:11
Oh, sure.
Mark Bogen 13:11
I think you've earned not having to be a visitor, right? Thank you.
Steve Geller 13:18
Thank you.
Mark Bogen 13:18
Wait, wait, wait. Let me congratulate you. Congratulations. Go around. Say everybody wants to congratulate you. Thank you. All right. We'll stay with aviation for a moment. Christina Roldan. Why don't you give that to her?
Mark Bogen 14:03
From Emergency Management, Stephen Hershenhorn. You can go, John. Thank you for your service. Hey, congratulations. We got the whole family here? Hey, how you doing, sir? Good to see you. All right. I think we all recognize this next individual. She is responsible for making sure our budget is in order. Jennifer Steelman.
Mark Bogen 15:18
We'll do one, and then I think the whole budget will team. All right.
Steve Geller 15:26
Come on, guys. Come on. Hurry up. Let's do the budget.
Mark Bogen 15:29
Budget. So commissioners, this is the dream team that makes the budget happen.
