Good evening, Lawana Mayfield and Councilmember at large. Terry Hagler Gray, senior assistant city attorney. Excellent. So we began our meeting with an invocation as an expression and inspiration followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation by a council member is intended to underscore our proceedings.
What is the purpose of the invocation and pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the session?
We celebrate the religious diversity of our community, including those without a religious faith. This evening, Councilmember Mitchell will provide our invocation.
Thank you, Mayor Pro Tin. Can we all stand, please? Oh here, please. Oh wise and gracious father, we thank you for another day, another day of blessing. Heavenly Father, we ask that your spirit would be with the city council and the city staff and all the citizens to call Charlotte home. We ask that your spirit will continue to guide us and move us and work with our citizens, work with our corporation, work with our staff. Heavenly Father, this is your city, City of Charlotte. We ask that all the will we do will be a blessing unto you. Let all believers say Amen.
Amen. Why y'all say name? So why you say that? So this evening we have a uh special treat. Oh we're gonna let them do it. We have a special treat. Um the Boy Scout Troop 8 from St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Will come down and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. I believe you all have had a tour of the the facility, so come on down and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Great job. Thank you all. Okay. So um after that wonderful pledge of allegiance, I am gonna go ahead and explain our zoning process. And our process begins with applications submitted to our uh planning staff for review. There are two types of um items on the agenda. We have decisions and we have hearings. Decisions on cases for which a public hearing was previously held and there will be no further comment this evening on decisions. For hearings, anyone wishing to speak is asked to see the clerk right here on the in before the start of that particular hearing. Staff presentations will have no time limit, and the petitioner. That is, the individuals that are in favor of the petition will get three minutes combined to present their case unless one of two options exists.
One, if there is opposition sign up to speak, or if staff is in opposition, the petitioner will receive 10 minutes, the opponent will receive 10 minutes, and then the petitioner will be able to do it. Will receive two minutes as a rebuttal. If no one is opposed or signed up to speak, staff will go ahead with their short presentation. And then the public hearing will be closed and we'll move on to the next one. The petitions go to our Zoning Committee of Plan and Commission for review and for recommendation. And I'm going to pass it over to the remote. Over uh this evening to Vice Chair Melissa Gasson, who will uh introduce her committee. Thank you, Vice Chair. Good evening. My name is Melissa Gaston, and I'm the vice chair for the zoning committee of the Planning Commission. Allow me to introduce my fellow members. I have here Carolyn Millen. Robin Steve. Uh, Aaron Shaw, Teresa McDonald, Michael Capriola, Terry, Teresa, um sorry, um Aaron's not here yet, but she will be here.
