And and it was gorgeous that it smelled so good in the springtime and it was really beautiful. Seventy years ago, Cupertino was a small valley of orchards and winding roads. Today it's a city known worldwide for innovation and community spirit. In the 1950s, San Jose was expanding rapidly, annexing communities in every direction. Residents here saw their future at risk.

Good evening. And thank you all for joining us tonight. What a joy to be together and celebrate a very special milestone. Seventy years of the city of Cupertino. Seven decades of neighbors helping neighbors, of families planting roots, of schools and small businesses serving our community, and of people working together to make this a place we are proud to call home. When I think about Cupertino over the last seventy years, I think about service from orchards and small town streets to a global hub of innovation. Our city has grown and changed, but the heart of Cupertino has always been the same. People committed to each other and to build to building a community where every generation can thrive. Together we honour that spirit of volunteers, the leaders, the neighbours who give their time, their ideas and their care to the city.

Thank you. Yeah, real quick. Thank you, Mayor Chow. Um it's great to be here today. Congratulations to Cupertino on turning seventy. I want to say I hope the city is figuratively eating healthy and getting its steps in, since that's the age it just turned. As I thought that was a great uh video that uh we just saw, I would like to note that in nineteen fifty-five the vote for incorporation was actually two hundred That's less than 50 people deciding where we are today. So then as now, every vote counts. Since then, Cupertino has not only grown quite a bit, but also has developed a strong identity from, among other things, education, technology, and community engagement.
