Good morning everyone. Uh my name's Jimmy Beerman, Train School District Supervisor. Most of you know me. Um We are starting today's uh Board Transportation uh committee meeting as we always do, which is looking at the minutes from our last meeting uh on February twenty fourth. Are there any changes to the minutes? Don't all speak at once. Didn't think so. Um, moving right along. Uh today's meeting is a really, really important one today and I want to sort of center what we're doing today before we get started. Uh we are going to be talking about transportation project timelines and the things that cause delays in transportation projects and what makes them take the time that they take. We are having this discussion, admittedly, because I think everybody here agrees that our transportation project timelines are too long.

So we are trying to find ways to have better efficiency and to deliver projects faster. These projects, as you will see from the presentations today, are extremely complex and they involve a lot of moving parts, some of which are in our control as with respect to FC DOT. Some of which are out of our control with respect to, say, VDOT or unfortunately utility companies. The purpose of today is to outline where we're at, to think about what our efficiencies going forward could be. And in truth, today is really the first of two meetings on this topic because currently our audit committee and our board auditor is looking at the community. looking at all of these timelines and producing an audit which will hopefully have some action steps in the future.

So with that we're gonna go into uh we're going to go into the presentations. When the presentations are over, the purpose of committee meetings, as Chairman McKay has reminded me about fifty times. Is to have discussions. And I am going to try and uh be quiet after that and leave it up to my board colleagues to ask important questions. Uh, Brian, don't look so amused. Uh, but we are uh we're gonna go over this, and today is the day to have discussions that can be built on uh in the future, in future months as we come up with specific action steps to make our processes as efficient and effective as possible. Thank you, and with that I'm gonna turn it over to our director of transportation, Greg Steverson.

All right. Let's see if we can get this one up on the screen. All right, there we go. Uh good morning, members of the board. My name is Greg Steverson. I'm the director of the Fairfax County Department of Transportation. With me here today is Martha Coelho, who is our Deputy Director here at FC D OT. Um we've got two presentations today, uh both regarding process and schedule for active transportation projects. The first presentation uh is gonna provide information. regarding uh projects in general. And then the second one, we're going to specifically go into projects that are part of the $100 million for active transportation. Now, before I begin, I really want to take a moment to thank my team. My team really helped us put together this presentation, but they also really helped in developing some of the ideas for streamlining processes.

Martha, who sort of led that team, I'd like to thank her. Obviously, my active transportation team, our capital projects team, our design division, our marketing and communications team. and really everyone at FCDOT for looking into this process and developing ways to make uh the processes better. So with that, uh let's get into the presentation. Uh if the clicker can work. Uh oh. Ah, okay. All right, we're gonna have to go old school. I'll just say next slide when we're ready to go the next slide. Um so as of now, once funding is allocated, uh and when I say allocated, I'm gonna use this term a lot. That means that uh the project's been prioritized, it's been chosen, and we've put money on that project.
