We had talked about the referrals with the county and I would ask that the last sentence from the second to last paragraph be added and the last paragraph to our tracking charts so that we can capture that as we can see fit.

none. I had a meeting on March 25th with Molly Novotny and Mike Watkins to discuss the new zoning ordinance. Nothing really coming of it. No chairman's statement, et cetera. So let's start with staff and committee reports. Zoning ordinance rewrite articles one and two. Director James David, Mike Watkins, Brian Boucher, Department of Community Development staff. Take it away.
Thank you very much. Good evening, Madam Chair, members of the Planning Commission. Happy to be here tonight to begin our long and detailed review of the draft zoning ordinance, which we're calling the zoning ordinance rewrite. And up until this point, we've had some various presentations, we've gone through some overviews, but tonight is where we start to dig into the draft text and the draft illustratives, graphics, and the map in the zoning ordinance rewrite. So let's go ahead and Take a quick look at where we've been and then where we're headed. So we kicked this project off in the summer of 2023. We did have a round of focus groups with various community groups, interest groups, industry groups.
There is a code audit available that we've all looked at from the consultant. There's an annotated outline. That's a tool that you all can use from the consultant that shows where it was in the previous ordinance and where it is proposed to be in the new ordinance. Then in the winter of 2023, we had additional outreach focus groups. As I mentioned, we had some concept overviews in 2024, and now we're here February through September 2025 for the Planning Commission in-depth review. And I also want to note for those folks that are following along at home or in the audience, there is a 60-day public comment period for the draft. It's out on the digital streets right now, and I'll have the link on how to get to that draft if you don't know already here in the next couple slides.
That public comment period does close May 5th. It began on March 6th. So we will go through the zoning articles with the hopes of a recommendation to council at the end of this year. That is a positive outlook. And if we need to take more time, we can take more time, as long as the time the commission needs to work through this when we're prepared to do so. That bottom left box is the project page for the zoning ordinance rewrite. If anybody wants to see the code audit, the annotated outline, and some of the other presentations that the commission and public have received thus far. All right, so here's the tentative work plan for the rewrite. We kicked it off January 16th. We talked about the zoning map February 6th.
The text was released on March 6th, and here we are on April 3rd, and we'll be looking at Article 1, general provisions, and Article 2, zoning districts and dimensional standards. But before we jump in, the chair had asked me to kind of just remind the commission what were some of the guiding directives from the council in the project plan that we should be thinking about as we get into these different articles. So up on the screen, I've organized it according to basically our top six that we're thinking about as we go forward.
