Aye. Abstain.
Okay.
One absent, so 4-0. Abstaining. Thank you. 4-0-1. Okay.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. Are there any disclosures? No, ma'am. Nope. Nope. Me neither. Okay. Petitioners. Do we have any petitioners this evening? Nobody signed up. Okay. Director David, was there an error in one of our announcements or some announcement?
Yeah, we were made aware earlier this week that in the Loudon Now, they published Leesburg Gateway was going to be heard tonight on July 10th, but Leesburg Gateway work session is actually on July 17th. So I just wanted to put that out on the airwaves in case you were here to talk about Leesburg Gateway. You certainly invited to come up to the petitioner section, but we will take that up on July 17th.
Thank you very much. Okay. If no petitioners have signed up, would anybody like to petition? Speak? No? Okay. Then let us dive into our work session, which is a zoning ordinance rewrite, recap of Article I through III, review of Article IV. Director David, Mike Watkins, Brian Boucher, all of the Department of Community Development are going to lead us onward.
Great. Thank you very much, Madam Chair. So we took a little time from the zoning ordinance in June. We had some legislative applications, so we're back on it tonight. And we thought it would be good to just open the floor for Articles 1 through 3 one last time to see if that month off jog anything in anybody's brain, and they wanted to bring up any questions, concerns, or discussion items about Articles 1 through 3. So as a reminder, Article 1 was general provisions. That was a pretty short and sweet article that talked about jurisdiction, authority, measurements, allowances. Article 2 was zoning districts, and so we looked at new zoning district terminology in residential districts We have the residential suburban, historic residential, residential medium, residential urban.
And then we also talked about non-residential and mixed-use districts, commercial neighborhood, commercial suburban, industrial research park, mixed-use downtown, innovation center. And then Crescent District is not quite ready yet, but that will be coming later. And then we talked about special purpose districts. which were the medical hospital center district, government center, airport, and open space and parks, which was a new zoning district that we added. We talked about overlays, including our historic overlay district downtown, gateway, floodplain, and noise abatement corridor. And then we also dove into community amenities, which was a NEW ADDITION WHERE WE GRABBED A LOT OF DIFFERENT STANDARDS ABOUT OPEN SPACE AND AMENITIES AND MADE THEM A SEPARATE DIVISION IN THAT SECTION.
AND THEN ARTICLE 3 WE SPENT QUITE A BIT OF TIME ON AND THAT WAS USE REGULATIONS AND THAT'S RIGHTFULLY SO BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF THE CORE AND THE HEART OF THE ZONING IN A LOT OF PEOPLE'S MINDS. We did talk about use categories, which is a new approach of defining the characteristics of a use category and then giving some examples. I think the commission wanted to put that maybe on the dive list to talk about later because it was a new approach and I think people had some confusion about it and they weren't quite sure whether they were in full support. So we'll certainly come back to that one on our deep dive list. But then we got into the use table and we had a really productive meeting to go through all the different uses and the zoning districts where those uses are either permissible by right, by minor special exception, or by special exception.
