Well, good evening, supervisors. Good evening, staff, and good evening, Loudon. I'd like to call to order the February 20th, 2024 Loudon County Board Supervisors Business Meeting. A physical forum of the board supervisors is present in the board room and the board has made arrangements for the voices of Supervisor Glass and sayings to be heard by all persons in the board room, although I will say Supervisor Glass does not have much of a voice today.

Ms. Glass, can you squeak at us please? that's about it okay well there we go thank you thank you very much supervisors i'm um it's gonna be a little a tiny bit of a change in the order today because um as we are all aware we had a tragic um incident happen on friday night and firefighter trevor brown lost his life in the line of duty death. And so I'll go through the rest of the agenda or the schedule in just a second, but can we all, will you first all join me in a moment of silence for Firefighter Brown?

All right, before I go to Mr. Kirshner for the invocation, what I thought I would do is ask our fire chief to come to the table and give an update on anything that he wants to give an update on regarding the incident that happened on Friday. I think he's probably the best one to give us the update. As he comes down, I will say, Chief Johnson, my gosh. Listen, on not just behalf of the board, but on behalf of a very grateful county, will you please extend to your command staff and to the entire combined system, Our condolences first to Firefighter Brown's family, his wife, his children, our concern about the firefighters who are still hospitalized, and our deep gratitude for the entire combined system.

Thank you, Chair Angelo, members of the board, and Director to Mr. Hemstreet, Ms. McClone as well. Thank you for having me. And just to provide a brief update, kind of give us the high-level overview of where we are, because I think it's important that the folks understand and you understand where we are at this point in our environment. I think before I even start, I have to provide a thank you to the board and to county administration and to all citizens of Loudoun County. In my 41 years as a firefighter, I have never, ever received as much reach out, contacts, thank yous, letters of support, offers of support, coast to coast. This is not a Loudoun County thing. This is a Virginia thing, national thing, fire service thing, and has truly been overwhelming to receive the accolades and the condolences of so many people within this county

and abroad everywhere and that is truly overwhelming to say the least. So not to dwell on that, most people know that obviously on Friday night our crews would dispatch for an outside gas leak, something we run very often, an outside smell of gas. That requires a limited response, and our folks responded accordingly with a limited number of units to an outside gas leak.
