We will reconvene at five o'clock for uh we'll do some housekeeping and then at five thirty we'll start the proclamations and at six o'clock we'll start public comments. So the meeting is hereby recessed. Thank you.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening, loud, and good evening staff. And uh uh we are at this time going to reconvene the May twentieth, twenty twenty five Board of Supervisors business meeting. This room has a hearing loop. I have the words of inspiration tonight. And uh I was in an event for the tree of life. Uh Earlier last week. And I recalled one line out of President John F. Kennedy's inaugural address at the moment. And I I remember in a prior presentation I'd done many years ago that the actual last several paragraphs of that address are pretty inspiring.
And I reread them, and I thought it was uncanny that the words he spoke in 1960. I feel have direct application here in 2025. So this is just a portion of the speech. In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe. Now the Trumpet summons us again, not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need, not as a call to battle, though unbattled we are, but a call to bear Bear the burden of a long twilight struggle year in and year out, rejoicing in hope, patience in tribulation, a struggle against the common enemies of man, tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself.
In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility. I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it. And the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you.
With a good conscience, our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds. Let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking his blessing and his help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own. Please join me in the pledge. Well I believe this plan in the United States. Very public. nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you everyone. We have a very, very thin agenda tonight. Um and so we are going to move through it. Uh briskly. Um um let's see now. Uh are there uh any requests for additions or deletions to the agenda? Seeing none, I'm gonna read the proposed consent agenda. It's fairly lengthy, and uh and then we will vote on the consent agenda.
On the consent agenda this evening, item R1, proclamation to recognize May 2025 as Jewish American Heritage Month in Loudoun County. Item R two, proclamation to recognize May 18th to 24th as National Emergency Medical Services Week. Item R three, resolution of commendation for the Academies of Loud. chess team. Item R four, resolution to recognize Loudoun County's foster parents of the year approval only. I'm sorry. Item R five, resolution to recognize uh 36 years of public service and the retirement of Ina for Ina Fernandez, immediate past director of family services.
