Good evening everyone. Welcome to the uh uh September twenty-sixth Board of Supervisors zoning ordinance rewrite work session. This room has a hearing loop. Well thank you all for being here. Uh I'm Mike Turner, uh Supervisor Mike Turner, the Ashburn supervisor. Um Chair Randall is on uh had a uh personal situation with her family and is out this week. Um due to the work that I've kind of done behind the scenes, a lot of work on the Zoor for quite some time as a T Lug chair she asked that I chair this meeting and so I was happy to do that. Um record let the record show that I really do want to thank her for putting me in charge of a meeting that has 49 motions that we're now going to address. A couple of things about how this is gonna run tonight or how li I'd like it to run and and we're gonna have to pull a lot of audibles I think during the meeting.
Um There's a tendency, I think, for all of us to look at the size of this meeting and think, oh my God, we're going to be here forever. Well, let's let's get that out of our brains and think we're going to move through this efficiently and expeditiously. And I think you'll be surprised it'll it should move right along. I will get into the larger structure of how we're going to do um, how we're going to do the committee as a whole here when we enter that. Um but um generally Generally speaking, I want to try and give all the voices in the room a chance to voice their concerns and ask questions as we go through these motions. But I also don't want to tarry unnecessarily on motions that are pretty straightforward.
They're either going to go up or down pretty fast and don't really need a whole lot of explanation and discussion. And I will there are some unique circumstances in the motions, and I'll get into those when we get into the committee of the whole. The sequence We'll uh just to lay out the larger map of how we're gonna proceed. First of all, remember if you're at the table to put your mic on. Nobody can hear us if you don't have your mic on, even though we can hear ourselves in this room. Um we will have presentation on the information item by staff. Then we will do a round of three minutes of questions for the board members, uh, and then staff will present the action item.
How does the chair explain the meeting structure, motion process, and committee‑of‑the‑whole format?
We'll have another round of three minutes. For the board members. Then we will ask the stakeholders to come up and speak for up to two and a half minutes for each stakeholder. Then we will go into a committee of the whole. That committee of the whole will not be time limited. We will stay in a committee of the whole until we address all 49 motions. And uh and then we'll come out of the committee of a whole and adjourn. For processing. Um we are considering Chapter 12, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 tonight. Um I will say up at the top that Supervisor Buffington cannot be here and he has asked that we defer uh all of the rural motions until the next work session. There is one of those for chapter three, and I think there are four for chapter four, four, five.
Which means we will not be voting on approving finally the chapter three and chapter four tonight. That will happen at the next work session, which I believe is October second. Um and uh so we will we and we will table those motions until the October second meeting. Uh I'll get into some more details about the committee of whole when we oh go into that committee uh and right now let's get into the first information item. If staff could present, that'd be great.
