All right. Well, good evening, supervisors. Good evening, staff, good evening, Loudon. I'd like to call to order the October twenty-third um Board Supervisors zoning ordinance rewrite work session. I don't know what's going on over here with your off with your place. I don't I don't have any clue what's happening over here, but okay. Um Be before we get to the staff presentation, I do want to stop and thank Supervisor Turner. Um I haven't had my sea legs under me for a couple of weeks. I've had a lot of stuff going on with my life and my family and a death in a close death in my family, and Mr Turner has stepped in and and um run the meetings and done a great job and along with his staff, Mr. Turner, um I say all the time, you gotta rely on the people around you when you need to and I relied on you, you did a great job. I appreciate it. Thank you. Um so with that, supervisors, we're going to do this by in this order.
Then do the staff presentation and then we will ask uh questions uh of staff. We will hear from stakeholders, um, and then we will go into a a fairly short committee as a whole to and and one of the reasons I want to go into the committee as a whole is to hear the conversations amongst ourselves. Mr um Mr. Turner. And Mr. Laterno. have been working really hard along with stakeholders on the parking issues. We've had a lot of discussions two by two by two. over the weekend and I kinda wanna just have everyone hear of some of the conclusions that have been reached. There are based on some of the many discussions that have happened two by two this weekend, there are m many mo not many, but a a good number of motions that will be c that will come out of the package tonight that don't have to be made.
And so although we are going to have a very long evening, it may not be quite as long as we was we previously thought because there were some there are some motions that will be lifted out based on um some things and I also wanna I have a couple questions to ask staff. as well. And so the committee as a whole will probably be twenty minutes and I will uh again say, um, you know, if we commit as a whole twenty minutes, please nobody take up fifteen. That's a twenty minutes away from one person talking. That'd be great. Um I Mr. Buffington will not be here tonight. Miss Glass um is not feeling well. She will not be here tonight. I do expect Mr. Laterno to come into the room. Uh with that we are ready.
Thank you, Chair Randall and board members. This evening we are considering chapter eight of the draft zoning ordinance, which is signage. The sign ordinance overall has been extensively rewritten and reorganized to reflect changes to case law that generally prohibits standards that discriminate based on a sign's content. By content, we mean not only the sign's message but the user. The draft zoning ordinance aims to be content neutral by focusing on a sign's physical characteristics such as the height, size, setback, number, and lighting for signage. As we go through the presentation and the discussion, keep in mind that government signs are exempt from the sign ordinance. Examples of government signs would be traffic signs, historical markers, a public school sign, or even a mural or art display commissioned by the county for a public park, for example.
