I guess not. Well, good afternoon, Supervisors good well, uh good evening, Supervisor. Good evening, staff, good evening, Loudoun. I'd like to call to order December eighth, two thousand twenty-five, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Transit Summit. This room has a hearing loop. If you need hearing assistance, please put your hearing aid to the telecall mode. Um if you need um a headset, we have those available as well. Please see the clerk to request one. Would everyone please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance?

I'm gonna ask everyone to forgive me for my failing voice. Um I it we had a very busy holiday weekend and I must have screamed with I don't know, five hundred kids that Santa Claus was coming. And uh we screamed for a good long time before Santa Claus actually arrived, so it kinda took my voice out. So please forgive my voice if you don't mind. Um I also want to s uh let everyone know that um add in addition to the um agenda is we have um a person speaking tonight from uh t from the ATU Transit Authority to from the amalgamated transit union, uh Mr. Ray Jackson when he gets here, supposed to be speaking this evening. Our speakers will have three minutes. Normally we have two and a half, but I'm allowing three minutes for uh this.
Um and so I'm gonna call on you um uh call on the speakers next. Um I assume Mr. Laterno and Mr. Kirsthner will be joining us shortly. Who else is missing? Is that all? Yeah, that's it. I'm assuming um they're gonna be joining us uh shortly. Um or at least we hope so. We will now hear from the invited advisory board. So speakers will have three minutes to address the board. When you are speaking, please address the board and not the audience. Those addressing the board are asked to maintain, well, I I'm I'm I'm not worried about you all maintaining decorum. I'm pretty sure that's gonna happen. Um, the transit advisory board, there was a person they were not able to send anyone. I am really very happy that Makisha McDuffie from the Commission on Aging is here and will be our first speaker.
Our second speaker will be um Bobby uh Dessier from the Disability Services Board, and then our third speaker, if he arrives on time, would be Ray Jackson from the Amalgamated Transit. it union. Um Miss McDuffie, would you like to come up please? McDuffie, I'm sorry, to either either um podium. You do amazing work with our aging populations and and you've been doing it for a very long time and I appreciate that very much. Ready when you are, ma'am. Okay,
thank you. Good evening, Transit Fleet, Commuter Services, and members of the Board of Supervisors. My name is Lakeisha Gore-McDerfee. I am the chair of a nine-member Loudoun County Commission on Aging and I am honored to be here today. You may know that we serve as advisors to both the Board of Supervisors and the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging. Our task is to make recommendations that impact the well-being and independence of older Loudoun residents. Seniors think a lot about the two Ts, taxes and transportation. And we do want to thank you for the tax relief for the elder last week. Um, I have spoken directly with older adults in Louten, and one message was repeated. They want a safe, reliable, affordable rideshare transportation option designed specifically for older adults.
First, this service would be operated by the county and mirror the ease and flexibility of Uber. Or lift, but with the comfort, familiarity, and trust that older residents depend on. Second, the service would be accessible by phone and app that is simple, intuitive, and available when they need it. Now, according to the 2020 Loudoun County Census Reporter, the 60 and older population in Loudoun increased from Approximately nine point three percent in twenty ten to an estimated seventeen percent in twenty twenty four, and that's a significant jump.
