Thank you very much. We're going to move to Item 9 on the agenda, which is Planning Director's Time. Director Washington, the floor is yours.
Thank you very much, Chair McPhail. Can you bring up my presentation? I'll take just a moment. And... Since I missed the Planning Commission meetings in September, I have some updates going back to July in terms of recent activities that our office has been involved in. Next slide. The first is during the, in July, the Planning Office participated in the APA Virginia Planning Conference. We were able to send several staff to attend the conference, but most importantly, David McGettigan, our Deputy Planning Director, was a speaker on a panel related to data centers. The session was called Powering Tomorrow, Learning from Northern Virginia's Data Centers. And along with David, as part of the panel, we had the Loudoun County Director of Planning and Zoning, as well as the Stafford County Director of Planning and Zoning.
This is a photo of us. And in addition, the moderator for that panel is a former planning office employee, Emily Wolfson. That was, I'm sure, a very interesting panel discussion to talk about the experiences that our three counties have had with data centers and how we've been working out how to manage these types of developments in our respective counties. The conference itself, I was only able to attend a part of the conference, but the sessions that I was able to attend were all very interesting, very illuminating, and we certainly would encourage the commissioners to consider attending the conference next year when it comes around again in the summer. Next slide. I also represented the planning office at a ribbon cutting in September.
This was a project completed by the county's Department of Transportation. It was the first part of the University Boulevard Extension project from Edmonston to Sudley. You can see from the images the portion of the segment that opened. There's another segment that's also gonna be opened a little bit later. But this was a project that is a road segment that's in our comprehensive plan, so an item that's being implemented. But particularly important is that this road segment actually created a connection to a community, a more direct connection between two communities than what existed before. And it included a bridge that goes over a stream valley, which was, I think, a major barrier before. So very exciting to see that project being completed.
And as you can see, it also includes a shared path on the side as well. Next slide. The planning office also participated in two magisterial district town halls last month.
