Everyone, it's 6 o'clock. We're going to go ahead and start our work sessions for the evening. We have two. We have the work session, DCSM 600, transportation update, and the work session for the planning director part two. So, Paolo, the floor is yours, sir.
Good evening. Do you want us to wait? All right, well... Chairman McPhail, members of the Planning Commission, Paolo Bellitto with the Department of Transportation. Happy New Year, very excited to be here. This is a follow-up to a presentation and a public hearing item as part of the DCSM Section 600. As we recall, there was a vote to recommend approval with a condition to look at a few things. I did want to highlight that. One of the things we were requested to look at is clarity and requirements for two over two townhouses. work with the board and industry and parking elements as part of Table 16-6, that is the by-right parking reductions. So since then, we were also asked to come back as part of a work session before we take this to the board.
As a quick update, we're in the process of meeting with the board members to discuss the changes to the DCSM. We still have a couple planned meetings. Our intent is to develop a new draft, we can call it a final draft, within the next month or so to take to board action sometime this spring. So we want to continue to obtain input tonight, and the goal is solely develop a new draft, send it back to the commission, the board, industry, obtain additional comments, and then take it to the board for action sometime in the spring. I know at the last meeting, there was a lot of discussion on parking, so a lot of our discussions today will focus on parking to really address some of the concerns. I'm joined by Kevin Weir.
He has a brief presentation, and we do want to share our first shot of our draft change to Table 16-6, which is our by-right parking reductions, and happy to continue the dialogue and develop any changes to that table. With that, I will hand it over.

very much. Kevin, please proceed. Chairman McPhail, members of the commission, Kevin Weirock, transportation planning manager for the county. I'm joined here by Paulo. And I want to mention Bryce Barrett, who can't be with us tonight because he's welcoming a new addition to his family. His wife just gave birth yesterday. So we're very excited about that. He worked really hard on this. So we're happy to be back and discussing the changes we've made since we were last before you in November. This is the 18 month process, you know, 19, 20 month process at this point that we're finally at the point where we're meeting with county supervisors and getting their input on this entire document, not just the sticking points that we might still have, like the parking reductions and those sorts of things, but the overall
you know, goal of what we're trying to do with the document, the emphasis on multimodal transportation, aligning with VDOT standards, urban and rural context, et cetera, et cetera. So some of the changes in progress that we've been making since we met with you last, based on your guidances, removing unnecessary text, adding definitions to the document, EV charging space guidance, level of service changes, turn lane changes, and the parking reduction. So I wanted to to show you an example of the unnecessary text that we are removing from the document. A lot of it is sort of justifications for our standards. And that reads more like a planning document when this is really an engineering manual. So we wanted to make sure that we were keeping it concise and to the point as much as possible.
So this is an example of some of the things that we're removing from those sections. It still has all the standards in it, still has all the meat of what we need to do. but just some of that extra language is being taken out.
