unusual to see in the showgrounds but we were just so off it I mean to concede the goal within the first what two and a half minutes on the clock just so defensively poor between McElroy and Sargent and
both just like there was at times you'd think they were playing with an extra man they were just so up for it even just the physical battle of the night of the tough conditions the wind you know they weren't pulling out of tackles where we were like the one thing I will say about Russell is he sticks to his principles and sometimes at this early stage of season you can kind of question it a bit like tonight
I think we've done a lot more better of just kind of grinding out that result and being more defensive solid where we probably need to do that on our own pitch at the moment at home because it's very soft.
Like I help out with other lads at halftime and before the game, you know, doing the divots on the pitch and it's not in great condition whatsoever and sometimes you just have to play to the conditions where a lot of the time on Saturday we were kind of passing the ball back and trying to play out from the back and it's just...
It's just not on at this stage of the year on that sort of pitch.
So maybe in Tala or the Aviva, you know, where the surface is a lot better, you might be able to get away with it.
But that's why I actually thought we would be okay against Derry.
And I kind of was proven right with the Astro.
It's just, you know, it allows us to play football where the kind of heavy pitches don't allow us to do that at this time of the year.
Oh, 100%.
Like, Saturday, I mean, it just, like, coming out of the ground, I just was like, it's kind of...
a relegation team staring us in the face, kind of in the sense there just was no fight in the team.
And I think, you know, even Richie Towle mentioned that on, I think it was Doherty podcast.
You know, there's just no character in that performance, but it seemed a bit better this evening that we can actually grind out a result if needs be.
But yeah,
The big thing is, and the elephant in the room is, Owen Elding was a massive loss so close to the start of the season.
I think everyone was starting to get their hopes up and I think even Russell himself, that we might be able to hold on to him until June.
And then obviously the late bid comes in and we're just not in a position to turn down that sort of money.
Yeah, that's what I'd be thinking.
I think a lot of fans are kind of scratching their head and I'm sure Russell and the committee are trying their best to get a replacement.
