Well listen, first, Don, let me thank you.

You were at our convention.

You had to leave us early, but we really, really appreciated you being there.

I hope that uh you felt the love from folks as you continue to argue for press freedom and the first oh, look at your little doggy back there.

I see my little friend back there going up the stairs.

Listen, we're a dog household and they are part of they're part of this show, uh too uh and I love that for them.

Uh but no, I mean look.

You are somebody that that has been uh continuing to talk about uh the importance of the First Amendment, the importance of press press freedom and our ability to do our job safely, uh and and without fear of retaliation.

So thank you for bringing that message to our convention.

Uh I felt like it was really important.

Uh and it's you missed the

I love it.

But no, I mean, look, our our convention theme this year was truth, power, and black journalism.

And I think that we saw um, you know, a a lot of that on display this week.

Your uh stopping by was certainly part of that.

And and frankly, um the thumbs down award is part of that.

And and it's funny because you know, uh I have been a member of NABJ for my entire career since I was a student.

uh and so i'm i've been around long enough to know that that this is not a new award i know it's new for a lot of people that maybe you know kind of are seeing that that viral headline right now but but this is a award that we've been given out for for decades.

Uh it's one of the ways uh that NABJ can really kind of hold uh institutions and public figures accountable when when we feel like their actions are

harmful to black journalists, uh black communities or the profession.
