He is a product of NABJ.
He talks about getting his start in journalism from NABJ, um getting to, you know, his his job at the Philadelphia Inquirer um with the help of one of our founders, right?
So this is somebody.
If NABJ raised you, then you are somebody that we think uh can know better and do better.
And so, you know, what that relationship means is that you know, you certainly have uh the benefit of the doubt in terms of our ability to believe.
that you can be accountable and make change, but that does not exempt you from criticism.
Um, you know, I respect
uh that that you know he has brought first take to our convention uh certainly our young people uh benefited from that he has been there for our young people he's been active in the organization but just because we're in relationship like that doesn't mean immunity from accountability like if we are in community we have to be able to celebrate each other and challenge each other and so that really is kind of the point of this uh for me uh yeah I mean same thing with you know I I again I heard him
know talking about all of his accolades and achievements, he he's getting ready to be inducted into the broadcast hall of fame.
His success and influence are undeniable.
We're not talking about that, right?
But that is exactly why uh the standard matters because uh, you know, just to Jamel's point, uh, the bigger the microphone, the greater the responsibility uh that he has.
So, you know, that really um is what it's about for me.
Yeah.
No, I I absolutely take what you're saying.
And listen, um, you know, uh certainly uh NABJ was among the the the institutions that was hoping that that he uh would not continue uh with these kinds of remarks and and and and with these kinds of um with this kind of rhetoric specifically against black women.
That is not something that happened, as you clearly are outlining.
Uh there is a pattern here and that is the pattern you know that I really felt compelled to address uh and that this board felt uh the need to address.
as uh as president.
I I will say again, NABJ did not make this decision casually, right?
