And like 14% of people would have bought and purchased this completely if declined by the buy now pay later rule.
which I think is a positive thing because it means that they couldn't afford it anyway because what they now have to do so what the regulators like what the regulated industry now has to do which is the buy now pay later industry they have to run checks on those that are trying to take out buy now pay later the same way that if someone was trying to take out a credit card they'd run checks
They have to be upfront about all of the costs that are involved as well.
They also get Section 75 protection on their purchases now that you didn't get before.
So Section 75 is when if you purchase something on a credit card between £100 and £30,000, your credit card provider is jointly liable for your purchase if something goes wrong with it.
The credit card provider will help you get your money back, basically.
And basically Section 75 is now on a buy now, pay later as well.
So they're becoming stricter at not just letting anyone being able to use it, which I think is really positive because there are a lot of people that shouldn't be using it.
Like you said, people that are using it for very small ticket items.
If you can't feasibly afford to do that, there is a much bigger question that needs to be had.
If you're super financially confident, you're super financially aware, maybe.
But in what context?
When would you use it and you think it's a good idea?
A bigger purchase.
So let's say something was like a $200, $300, $400, whatever we're talking, purchase.
that's probably when I'd look at it I personally haven't wouldn't use it just because it's something that I I always sit by the means of like if I wouldn't teach the next generation about it I wouldn't do it myself and I think with the next generation I'm very cautious to say to them
that it sits in one of two camps, because I think we're trying not to villainize debt, but also remind young people that like, just because it looks easy and looks pretty doesn't mean it is easy and should be used.
Yeah, with Buy Now Pay Later, there could be some people that think it's really efficient and really helpful for them.
If they've never gone into debt because of it, fantastic.
But do I think everyone should get on board with it?
