Researchers looked at 40 years of satellite imagery and precipitation data from around the world.
They found rainfall is consolidating especially dramatically in the Rocky Mountains and in South America.
They say it's hard for soil, rivers, and lakes to absorb all this water at once.
Corey Lesk is an author on the study, which was published in the journal Nature.
The scientists say this could mean these places see more floods, even as water resources get depleted in the long term.
