And it's like you put everything in quotes, but not
to belittle it or to undermine it.
Um, sincerity in and of itself doesn't and and you're not saying this, but you know, sincerity is not necessarily a positive quality in movies.
There are a lot of movies that are sincerely awful or sincerely smug, you know, or sincerely
confused.
I think you're right that the tone is elastic, but I mean it's certainly not messy.
And one of the things that I like um about that idea of that the stuff that's sort of in quotes is when a Han Einbender needs to give a kind of real performance, I think some of the monologue stuff mid-film, you know, the quotes come off.
And I think that on the other hand, the quotes around that big midfilm slasher scene from the killer's point of view, you know, whirling around with the fake blood and all of these kids being kind of killed off, um, that's in quotes, but not in a
Not in an ironic way.
I mean, it's it's kind of a stunning scene to me, that idea that you can kind of have blood and guts and camera movement that are so obviously not of that period.
People will watch that scene and sort of say, Well, that's not how a movie from the eighties would look.
And it's like the movie knows that.
And one reason that it knows that is because eventually the camera turns back around and it's not just the point of view of the killer.
It's the
face of the killer and you know, in a way the face of the filmmaker, uh, or or or or or that that that face of sort of control, you know.
I like I've read some reviews where people have said, Oh, it's so obvious that, you know, the Chris character is supposed to be Jane Schumres.
Yes, it is obvious because the directorial credit is superimposed over the first time we see Hanna Einbinder in
The film.
But that doesn't mean that just because things are explicit, it doesn't mean that it's a total one-to-one ratio or there aren't different interpretive avenues.
Or just because it's a sweet film doesn't mean that it's not tough, or doesn't mean that it's not thoughtful.
