Growing up as a young British Pakistani boy, I grew around watching people like Prince Nassim or Amey Khan, who was really famous at the time, on telly.
His fights would come on and my whole family would sit down and we'd kind of be like biting our nails or praying that Amey Khan would win the fight.
That was like my earliest memories of boxing.
My vision was deteriorating as a teenager and it's like going through grief.
Imagine you're going through puberty and I was figuring out, wow, I find this girl pretty or I find this.
And then at the same time, your vision's getting darker and it's getting darker and you're like, wait, what's going on here?
I remember actually even going to the hospital with my mum and the doctor saying, oh, look, your son now, he's severely sight impaired.
He's registered blind.
And I remember my mum crying and I didn't understand it.
In my school, there was a gym that was across my gym.
And I saw this guy, Carl, my coach.
And a couple of years later, he met me and said, wow, Adam, you're grown.
I'm a boxing coach.
What do you think about boxing?
And I didn't think anything of it.
I just went, oh, yeah, boxing.
That sounds cool.
