What is it for your particular three-year-old who has a particular set of traits to be happy?
That's something you can't really know in advance.
And so...
I mean, I think the case of parenthood is actually especially radical in that way, in that we have especially little knowledge of what we will be like, because that way that we're going to be is centered around a being who doesn't yet exist.
So it's not that you can't say things, even true things, about what the person who you're going to be is going to value.
It's that insofar as you're an aspirant, those thoughts necessarily have a kind of incompleteness where like most of their sort of content and resonance and meaning is going to have to be filled out at the end of the process.

I mean, I think we could put it that way, but that is we could use the concept of vagueness to help us out and say, well, I have a vaguer.
But I would then also want to add it's a particular kind of vagueness.
So, you know, if I know that it's raining outside, I don't know exactly.
I don't know if it's raining a huge amount or a little bit.
You know, there are different kinds of rain, right?
I might not know the details.
And I think in the aspirational case, the ignorance is a little more profound than that.
I mean, we can use the concept of vagueness, but we have to talk then about aspirational vagueness or something like that.
When I say, well, I want my child to be happy,
But I don't know what that's going to be like.
It's not just that, well, I know vaguely what I want for them, but I don't know the details.
It's like I really don't know what their happiness will be like.
Like most of what I have is ignorance, we might say.
