Paired with the election of Donald Trump, which I saw as a major repudiation of the media over the last couple of years, particularly MSNBC and CNN, which have spent these last couple of years warning about the threats of Donald Trump to no avail.
That has made me very pessimistic about the future of the industry.
I think a lot of people see mainstream media, if we want to call it that, as as powerless as it has been in a very long time, particularly with the rise of independent media.
And that scares me because.
These mainstream media outlets operate with far better guardrails for truth and standards for truth.
They have fact-checking units.
They have lawyers.
They have accountability teams.
When you submit a correction to CNN and they get something wrong, they correct the story.
If you submit a correction to a guy with a microphone –
you know, like on a podcast, they're not going to correct that story.
Right.
But I'm curious what you think, Don, about the future because you're someone who, you know, you cut your teeth, achieved some stardom in the traditional media, and now you're having a lot of success in streaming.
So what do you think?
Yeah.
And I think just certainly because, you know, I think these cable companies are going to realize at a certain point that they're paying these enormous salaries to, to, to, to stars that are big on cable news, but not big on YouTube, which is kind of where the audience is.
And so.
Right.
And this is going to be really interesting for MSNBC to your point about how they're going to farm this stuff out because MSNBC is now being cleaved off from NBC news, which is where they get their news, which is where all their reporters, if you watch MSNBC during the day, most of the, I mean, almost all of the reporters on air are from NBC news.
So MSNBC is going to have to figure out whether it's a contributor model or whether they rent, you know, rent an NBC reporter today, um, something like that.
