He would realize that even if you don't think it's exculpatory, you can use it in a way that raises doubts.
Remember, criminal defense lawyers don't have to prove anybody's innocence.
All they have to do is raise a reasonable doubt.
I don't know whether at the time they told them to turn over the material.
They knew how explosive the material was, but as soon as we saw it, we realized that this was, you know, our ticket.
This was his get-out-of-jail-free card.

And we were able to show that if that needle had been injected into a human body,
the body would act as a swab and the insulin would not be encrusted on the bottom, but it would be encrusted near the top.
And we were able to prove that the insulin was at the very bottom, showing that that needle had never been injected into any human being, but that it had been dipped into insulin in order to create the impression that this was an insulin-coated needle that Klaus von Bulow had injected his wife with.
The jury was very impressed with that demonstration.
Well, there were three readings, and they suppressed the most exculpatory reading and just allowed the two readings, both of which were consistent with guilt.
Once we were able to get at all the readings, we were able to show that they were inconsistent readings.
Again, that doesn't prove his innocence.
That just raises a reasonable doubt, and that's what we have to...
That's right.
And remember, everybody has some level of almost every chemical, so it's always a matter of how much and a matter of degree.
There was no insulin, but I have to tell you, Truman Capote told me that he gave her
insulin and told her how to inject it as a kind of weight loss or something.
