He would run the King Hangar on Eglin Air Force Base, the largest Air Force Base in the world.

And when we got really busy and just trying to discover who we were and trying lots of extracurricular activities,

We couldn't afford it.

We're broke.

You don't make a lot in the Air Force with a family of five that's busy.

And so he took a job as a night security guard at the tiny little local airport.

And he did it for enough time to get us through like a busy season, but he would work all day and then come home and nap and then go do this thing at night.

And I remember hearing about, my mom was like, you don't have to do this because I'd overhear them in the room.

And the people that were ranked way under him would see him at the airport and be like, what the hell are you doing here, David?

And they'd tease him for it.

He would talk about how he

humiliating it was.

Deeply, deeply.

And so I would hear these conversations.

I'd cry because then I feel bad because I'm like, he's doing this for me to be able to go to like a chorus event across the state in a competition.

And anyway, I hugely admire him for what he's doing.

But so he's supported in a big way.

I had a full ride.

I could have gone to any college I wanted, like vocal scholarships offered everywhere and

So I started college early a little bit, but I just wanted to get it done with.
