That is the way the industry is headed is just like more demand, huge demand, not enough supply.
How do we make sure that surrogates are treated well and also that parents are treated well?
We don't want parents in situations like some of the nightmare situations you discover where they've been left without their child, having spent all this money.
And also the rights of the child, you know, those are so often overlooked.
It's all about kind of the customer and the provider.
But what about the babies as well?
It's just such a legal, ethical, cultural minefield, the entire industry.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, in a totally utopian future, there would be some kind of international treaty.
There would be some kind of form of international regulation where countries would have to sign on to certain ethical standards.
And there would be more sort of oversight and cohesion between the different disparate markets in the global space.
I really don't think that's coming anytime soon, unfortunately.
So it's kind of up to individual governments to make those decisions.
But, yeah, I've spoken to several surrogacy lawyers in the UK and Europe who are slightly sort of in despair at the lack of regulation.
In this country, for example, there was meant to be a sort of a government body that was going to look at reforming surrogacy law here.
It's just not deemed to be a priority, particularly because it's such a hot potato politically.
No one really wants to go there.
No government wants to be responsible for reforming
looking really pro anti-surrogacy, really, especially if it's a vaguely centrist government like we have currently in the UK, like they just don't want to touch that.
It's too, it's not worth it for them.
