Highland High and Bloom was the GM, and we couldn't line up on a deal, obviously, but we had been after him.

I remember I was tracking his starts the last year.

He had a start against the Phillies.

He looked awesome.

Then he had the SCAP issue, and I'm pretty sure he pitched against the Jays, one of his last starts.

It may have been the last start of the year for him in 23.

He was 91, 92, but...

I was just watching him and following him the entire year because I wanted the person so much.

Obviously, I thought he was really good, but I wanted the person in our clubhouse so much.

And I remember we do these town halls in the organization.

At the time, the kid is John Grissom, who's a young, up-and-coming, dynamic player.

We had a lot of interest in him across the league.

And I remember one of our employees may have asked me, why trade a young player for Chris Sale?

We extended after we got him, but why not keep Von Grissom at the time and just spend the money on a free agent, which is totally fair.

And if you're looking at collecting assets and everything and you're looking at the math of it, absolutely.

It's a fair question.

I said the issue is I can't take Chris Sale's brain.
