In 2025, consultant firm BCG examined the next generation of beauty consumers through a comprehensive survey of US teens and their families.
This year, in partnership with Women's Wear Daily, WWD.
They have now presented the second edition of its Beauty Consumer Study, focusing on the way the industry's boundaries are expanding beyond traditional categories, redefining the shape of the beauty landscape.
Based on a survey of approximately five thousand US adults, this report, which we have linked in the show notes, explores how consumers are shifting their engagement with beauty beyond traditional categories like skincare, hair care, and makeup, and into aesthetic procedures, performance, and longevity.
Parallel to this, there have been calls from the industry for tighter regulation, greater transparency, and stronger safety standards, and the increasing consumer desire for both corrective and enhancement procedures has fueled a corresponding rise in discussions regarding ethical considerations.
Ethics is a theme in this episode, and one of the things we talk about is what care toward patients looks like when filtered and or AI generated images and hyper-visible beauty standards shape what people think they need or want.
