So I started reporting on this book in February 2023, right when Trump was kicking off his combat campaign.
And I knew we all knew it was going to be a dramatic and interesting campaign.
Of course, it became even more dramatic and even more interesting than I think we all could have imagined.
And my goal was to paint to create sort of a fly on the wall campaign.
book where readers could feel like they're in the room experiencing things as they happened and so i did this by talking to people who were intimately involved in this campaign and having them sort of just give me a play-by-play of what goes on day by day and i sort of just was their journal in some respects keeping track of what happened and then i wove that into a narrative and i tried to do in a way that was fair-minded that let readers reach their own conclusions about what happened and
And so I think that what this the reason why this book is important is because this was an historic election.
And there were sources of mine who wanted to tell that story, who wanted to tell history and let people know, here's what happened.

Well, I'm a reporter, so I'm trying to keep my – I try to just report on – I can tell by your answers, Alex.
Well, and this is the question, right?
I mean, these people voted for Donald Trump.
The question now is, is he going to be able to govern in a way?
Is he going to be able to govern in a way in which he can fulfill the promises that he made during the campaign?
And that's the question.
And that's what we're going to have to see happens.
Now, there are going to be some people who are going to say no.
There are going to be some people who might look at their wallets or their bank accounts after this and say the tariffs haven't really helped me or they're going to say it has helped me.
But that's going to be the question is, can Donald Trump govern in a way that he can fulfill his promises that he made during the campaign?
