I think what's happened here is that the government would use maybe some a term like pragmatic that actually because councils haven't been building homes and council house stock has been decreasing as people have had the right to buy them up and they haven't necessarily got, you know, the people in councils like the planners and the builders and the developers who can actually get the stuff built. voice-verified

Getting that done isn't a quick thing, um and uh uh uh somehow working out how you're gonna have the biggest council house building revolution in the post war period is is gonna be quite tricky. voice-verified

When you look at people that are on housing waiting lists or in temporary accommodation and that means like children sometimes living in B and B's and and really quite unsuitable accommodation and you hear some really heartbreaking stories about what that means for individuals and their lives, there are people that would argue actually trying to kind of unpick this program to focus on getting councils ready to build houses would take a really long period of time. voice-verified

And actually the better thing to do is try and get some homes being built now, if that as long as that means that a decent chunk of them are going to be available for social rent, so that people on lower incomes who need that kind of housing might be able to access that housing stock much more quickly. voice-verified
