could easily or not easily but he there was a chance he was on in pole position there in Monaco so yeah it's um I understand why they've had it had it circled and and they as Josh said he's right you know 24 was was Hamilton on pole 25 Leclerc on pole didn't really understand how he'd done it did he um but yeah they they go they both go very well there and and it's a big opportunity for them I think what's interesting with Ferrari is that they've been doing things quite well recently that
over the previous few years you criticized them quite heavily like strategy calls like they nailed that Barcelona strategy with Lewis Hamilton put him on an attacking strategy and that's ultimately what undid Mercedes because they sort of got in their own way really with letting the cars fight and the same with you know immediately okay they had to have the fortune come their way with the VSC at Spa but they still nailed it at a time where in a couple of years ago the Ferrari probably fumbles that golden opportunity to get Leclerc into into the victory fight
The biggest problem that they've got is that they fundamentally do not have the fastest car.
And again, we talk about this quite a lot in Formula One.
If something goes ever so slightly differently, you get a very different outcome.
And in both Spain and Silverstone, Mercedes should have been the winner.
That's the biggest problem that Ferrari have is that there's still a deficit to the front.
It's interesting with what I said about Leclerc not really understanding how he got polled last year.
Wasn't it that the wind suddenly changed direction and it completely threw off the balance on the McLaren?
What is that going to do to the machine learning on the engines if something like that happens?
It could be across the field.
All the drivers suddenly don't know what their engines are doing because that's what Formula One is apparently these days.
Well, I mean, Max Verstappen pretty much alluded to that in the press conference, didn't he?
He was just like, yeah, this is exactly what I meant when he said it was anti-racing and things like that back in pre-season testing because they just know how the engines work sort of so counterintuitively to the drivers.
But yeah, I think the Russell point is interesting, Ed, because he clearly is adjusting and he's actually impressing Mercedes with how he's being able to do that.
Yeah.
And I just wonder whether, you know, he needs to take heart from Leclerc.
I know that the Leclerc transformation in season was a bit more sort of fundamental.
We've given how the brakes, you know, the change in material, that's pretty critical to a driver.
