Um well thank you, uh Ethan Mills for uh joining us today to talk about your uh really cool book on on skepticism.
Um I wanted to begin with just kind of asking you how uh how you got into philosophy in general, um how you came to history of philosophy and Indian philosophy, and the topic of this uh this book in particular.
Yeah, that's uh it I I noticed you mentioned Hume.
Was that kind of the background of the skepticism bit or the Yeah, right.
So
Right.
Well one of the interesting things to me is that part one of the reasons that you see that um Asian philosophy and Indian philosophy and Chinese philosophy are sometimes dismissed is this idea that there isn't kind of a questioning.
It's it's all b it's all based in beliefs, religious beliefs, something like this.
And one of the cool things that that you're doing here is showing that there's actually there's a skeptical tradition there, much like what we see in much of Western philosophy.
Why why do you think this this this happens, right?
This kind of dismissal of of
of Asian philosophies on the basis of of that kind of thing.
Hmm.
That's great.
I really like that.
So could you do you say something about the uh just a kind of a overview or introduction to the three different figures that you talk about in the the kind of different parts of the classical Indian tradition?
That's a that's a great point.
I th and I thought w one of the things you said early on about kind of uh questioning the organization of of texts in terms of schools, it reminds me of something that that kind of a debate that comes up in Chinese philosophy concerning that as well.
