Well I loved comedy and I loved sitcom and I was watching comedy specials and I grew up in front of the TV basically watching comedy and then I noticed that I was re-watching specials I liked and transcribing them and starting to pick up on the joke patterns and starting to predict the punchlines on Live at the Apollo and that kind of thing because you do start to see a repetition

That was interesting, but what was more important to me was I could make my parents' friends laugh.

Genuinely laugh.

I could hold attention at a dinner party and really make them laugh.

Because I was picking up on how their kids... Now I look back on it and I understand what I was doing.

Back then I was just feeling it.

I was just sensitive and I was just feeling... You think, oh, this feels nice.

This is when you should add that extra punchline.

This is when you should go into the high-pitched voice impression of whatever.

And I'd done an open mic in my last term at Bristol Uni.

I'd hated Bristol.

I just didn't enjoy it very much.

And I spent the whole three years working for a company in London.

I moved to London.

I continued working.

I started doing the open mics in the evening.

So I was working like eight, 10 hour days at a stressful company.

and then going and doing an open mic.

And I did a few of the open mic comedy competitions and they went OK.

Like I never won, but I always kind of got to the final and I had a few jokes that I thought were all right.
