I mean, retaining the initials, you can...
argue how much of a name change is that, but these were accompanied by very strong statements distancing their organisations from the eugenic beliefs of Marie Stopes in particular in that case.
And of course, in the US, there's been a complete disavowal of Margaret Sanger.
perhaps most notably by the birth control organisation that she founded, which today is Planned Parenthood.
Her name was taken off the birth control clinic in New York.
They had a prize named after her.
They took her name off that.
And there was an apology and an explicit distancing of the organisation from Margaret Sanger.
The head of the organisation said, we will no longer be apologising for Margaret Sanger.
And that was something the organisation had been doing for years.
So there's been a lot of attempts by contemporary reproductive health organisations and feminist organisations to try and come to terms with this history.
I'm unsure the extent to which it's successful in the sense that just changing the name of the organisation doesn't necessarily mean there's been structural change, that some of these ideas actually have persisted into the present in ways that are perhaps not obvious.
And so I worry that those elements of these organisations will just continue.
They can say, we're fine now, clearly not eugenicists.
When there's a rising critique, particularly from women of colour, around a new concept, not of reproductive rights, but of reproductive justice.
And that means the right to have children as well as the right to not have children.
What would it look like?
It would look very different.
