I'd been let out with my friend Marjorie and we walked along Lavender Hill looking in the jewellers like all giggly little girls and we're saying, oh, one day, you know, perhaps we'll have a necklace like that.

It was a diamond choker.

Oh, and it was beautiful and it all sparkled in the window.

I said, oh, I'd love that.

And then we moved on and went to look in another shop.

When I got back near lunchtime, dad was waiting for me and he said, what's this?

And he had that necklace.

It was on the table.

Well, my eyes, I said, I was only looking at that with Marjorie.

And Dad said, have you put this here, Donald?

So he said, come on, don't take your coat off.

Can you remember the jeweller?

We're taking it back.

And when we got in there, the jeweller was going to pick up the phone and phone the police.

That's disappeared out of my window.

There was no way he could be convinced otherwise.

But he did admit that he saw two little girls looking in the window.

And I said, we never came into your shop.

So he said, no.
