If you've tried to fly during some of the recent weather issues, you might not think so. matched

Weather is always an issue that airlines have to contend with, though. matched

But overall, delays and cancellations have gone down compared to earlier this year. matched

And airlines have trimmed their schedules so they are flying less than they had anticipated earlier this year, which does affect availability for the holidays. matched

Prices are only going to go up. matched

So as the travel date gets closer, availability is more limited. matched

And as I mentioned, there are more limited routes this year. matched

So with the laws of supply and demand, prices will increase. matched

In addition to keeping an eye on those major airlines that you probably fly often, you can also study fares on newer budget airlines. matched

So there are competitors in the field who might not be on your radar. matched

For example, Avelo and Breeze are low-cost carriers, and they've added routes in recent months, and they often fly from smaller regional airports. matched

But if you're looking at those carriers, just be aware that there will likely be added fees for baggage and for seat selection, which can drive up the price. matched

So it's called code sharing and it involves airlines and alliances like One World, SkyTeam, and Star Alliance. matched

It can benefit frequent flyers because their miles can be carried over from one airline to another. matched

Now, it's possible to find cheaper fares, and this is because you can book the same flight through a partner airline. matched
