But yeah, it's just pain is not something that we can fully avoid. podcast-host

And being hurt by people is not something we can fully avoid. podcast-host

And so maybe we can talk about what that looks like, you know, of expecting to be hurt and what to do with that hurt. podcast-host

especially when it comes to the people nearest to you, because it will happen. podcast-host

But I do think that a goal that we should have for ourselves, especially after talking about this today, is to become wise without becoming hard. podcast-host

And I think one thing that Jesus has never actually asked us to do is he's never asked us to choose between wisdom and love. podcast-host

I think that both of those things can still live in the same place and we can still carry both of those things at the same time. podcast-host

And I think literally the best way to do that is to extend love to every person that we meet. podcast-host

And then again, like we are discerning, asking questions and observing, not in a skeptical way and not in a way where you're assuming the worst in people. podcast-host

But watching for fruit. podcast-host

I don't necessarily want to use the verbiage prove. podcast-host

I think I've already said it where I'm like, you've got to see like let people prove to you that they are trustworthy. podcast-host

I don't hate it, but I think even the word prove can carry a little bit of a pessimistic undertone where it's like, well, I don't know, prove it. podcast-host

Like prove to me that you're a good person and that I can trust you with my heart. podcast-host

And so maybe instead of, you know, using the mindset of naturally in their life on whether you actually believe with how they're demonstrating their fruit and how they show up in life. podcast-host

Like, I think a demonstration of them actually being trustworthy to have even deeper access to you. podcast-host

Because the truth is, is like, if you're going to try to learn if somebody... podcast-host

is trustworthy like you do have to give them access to you enough where you're like spending time with them and you're having conversations and you're laughing and you're telling them about you and your life and your loves and your interests and the things that maybe you don't like and you're also learning that about them too like there is a level of access that you have to be able to give somebody to even see more so yeah I think I like the word demonstration better podcast-host

Let them demonstrate that they are trustworthy before you let them have your entire heart. podcast-host

So I think that the best way to do that is to start with openness versus like intimacy. podcast-host
