Probably the best way of saying is a little bit archaic, like you'd expect in New Zealand maybe 20 years ago where you have to write them a letter and fill out a form and post the letter and wait for six weeks till you receive a reply back and they may ask for more information.
Your old employer is a good source of your national insurance number.
Most people can locate their old employer relatively easy.
There's a pension tracing service in the UK, free.
Put your details in, who you've worked for.
Sometimes they come out with quite good results and we can help as much as we can as well.

Again, for us, we try and make life as easy as we can for people, but sometimes they can't.
We've had pension transfers take as little as a week.
Very unusual.
The longest one we've dealt with is five years to get from A to B. Why?

We can complain as a company to the UK Pensions Ombudsman and they'll write you a letter again back saying, sorry, but we're going to be about a year until we can actually get to your case.
So it's archaic in some respects.
But what we always say to people, if you are happy to proceed with us and you're prepared to stay with us and put some work in when we ask you to, we will get a result for you.
